A few weeks ago on the Apple World Today News Update Podcast, we noted that Apple had apparently manufactured one million HomePods in its first production run. That number is probably spot on, as the new Apple smart speaker is still available online to pre-order for delivery or pickup on February 9.

It happened, but with a totally different name than we expected -- HomePod (available in December in the US, Australia, and UK for $349). The crowd didn't exactly seem enthralled with the name, but the device is quite impressive and as Apple noted, it's meant to redefine music in the home the same way that the iPod redefined portable music.

Pop singer Taylor Swift was no fan of Apple Music last June when the service launched, threatening to keep her album 1989 off of the service in a protest of Apple's royalty policies. Her threatened boycott had the desired effect, with Apple almost immediately responding with a change in how royalties would be paid during a listener's three-month free trial. Now the singer is appearing in a hilarious video for Apple Music that highlights curated playlists.
