New Apple data center in Denmark to bring a warm feeling to its neighbors

With Earth Day 2017 coming up tomorrow, the PR department at Apple has been working overtime to tout the company's excellent record on environmental sustainability. One such announcement has to do with a new data center in Denmark. Data centers and all of the servers packed in them generate a huge amount of heat, and Apple has announced that it will capture the waste heat from the new facility and direct it to a district heating system used to warm local homes.

Chinese server vendor Inspur reportedly joining Apple datacenter supply chain

Apple's "Project McQueen" is designed to move the company away from outside vendors like Microsoft and Amazon for some of its cloud infrastructure, but since Apple no longer builds servers, it has to depend on third parties to supply the hardware. DigiTimes reports that Chinese server vendor Inspur will be helping to supply some of the necessary infrastructure.

  • A CES announcement by Fitbit of its new Blaze smart fitness watch backfired, as investors sold shares and drove the price of Fitbit stock down over 18 percent today
  • Last night's Faraday Future (see picture of their concept car above) event begs the question -- is Apple really serious about getting into the car business? If they are, they'd better get moving
  • Sources say that Apple is cutting back on production of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus citing decreased demand and robust inventories
  • Apple's data center plans are moving ahead, with permits acquired for a second facility in Reno, Nevada
