Ulysses writing app embraces subscription purchase model

Many bloggers, including me, use the cross-platform writing app Ulysses on a daily basis. Up to this point, the app has required a pair of purchases; one for the Mac app and another for the iOS app. Today, the Ulysses team announced that it will do away with the purchases, instead embracing the subscription model that is becoming popular for so many apps.

Ulysses 2.5: The best writing tool just got better. An AWT Top Pick for 2016

I have been using Ulysses as my writing tool of choice for several years, and with the release today of Ulysses 2.5, the best writing tool just got better. Perhaps the most impressive achievement of today's combined release of Ulysses 2.5 for iOS ($19.99) and Ulysses 2.5 for Mac ($44.99) is that developers The Soulmen have accomplished something no other development firm has been able to do -- create a distraction-free writing tool that works equally well on any iOS or OS X device.

Spotify shows up near the top of the "top grossing" list every week, simple because of the $12.99 monthly in-app purchase that millions of iOS users make. Whether you just want to shuffle streaming music, create a playlist, or build your music collection over time, Spotify is a big favorite of a lot of iOS users. The latest release came out on October 20.

The Soulmen want you to use Ulysses to write your NaNoWriMo novel -- for free

Over the past ten years or so, I've often spent the month of November bent over the keyboard banging out a novel. Why? Because November is National Novel Writing Month, otherwise known as NaNoWriMo. During the 30 days of the month, you're encourage to write an average of 1,666 words per day to achieve one goal -- writing a 50,000-word novel. It's not that hard -- I've actually written four novels, although I won't consider actually publishing three of them. But the fourth one? When I get the time, it'll be an ebook.
