Daily Deal: Get a TextExpander 1-Year Single User Subscription at 60% off

TextExpander from Smile is one of my favorite Mac utilities. The app has saved me 31 hours and change just in the past year by taking long strings of text that I type over and over again, and letting me turn them into short, easy-to-type shortcuts. For example, typing just four letters gives me the title for the AWT News Update ("Apple World Today News Update for September 12, 2016"), a significant savings of time for something I type every weekday. Speaking of significant savings, AWT readers can get 60% off of a TextExpander 1-Year Single User Subscription from the Apple World Today Deals Shop.

Smile launches new TextExpander apps, moves to subscription pricing model (updated)

Many Apple bloggers are big fans of Smile's TextExpander app, both on Mac and iOS. After all, it lets us create keyboard shortcuts that can turn a snippet like "sttp" into "Subscribe to the Podcast," thus saving a lot of keystrokes and time. Yesterday, Smile not only announced TextExpander 6 for Mac and TextExpander 4 for iOS, but a new Windows beta version, a cloud syncing service, and a new subscription pricing plan. While I'm quite happy to hear about the new versions, I'm sure the subscription pricing plan may not make some users happy.

Smile releases TextExpander 5, adds snippet suggestions and more

One of the favorite Mac apps for the blogging team here at Apple World Today is TextExpander from Smile. The app is primarily used to take frequently-typed words and phrases known as “snippets” and assign a key shortcut to them — for example, Apple World Today could be given a shortcut of “hAWT”, providing a savings of 13 keystrokes everytime that website title is typed. Smile has just released TextExpander 5 for Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite, adding a number of helpful features to this must-have utility.
