France could fine Apple, Google $1 million for each smartphone the companies refuse to unlock

It’s not just the U.S. government that wants Apple to help unlock smartphones. Yann Galut, a member of France's Socialist Party, on Friday proposed an amendment to France's laws that could result in Apple being fined €1m (about $1.1 million) if it refuses to unlock an iPhone, according to The Local.
