Apple reportedly talking with major publishers about inclusion in its Texture, Apple News apps/services

Yesterday it was reported that Apple had hired Liz Schimel, a veteran media exec who previously served as president of Conde Nast China, to serve as “head of news business.” Now re/code reports that the tech giant has been talking to some of the biggest newspapers in the U.S. about adding their stories to Texture, the magazine app/service Apple bought in March.

Apple execs, led by senior vice president of Internet software and services, Eddy Cue, have approached The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post about joining the app, the article adds, quoting unnamed “people familiar with the conversations.”

Described as the “Netflix of magazines,” Texture offers access to 200 magazines for a monthly fee of $9.99. Apple’s negotiations with major publishers probably also involves Apple News, a mobile app and news aggregator for iOS devices and, starting with macOS Mojave, the Mac. Almost 60 million folks used it in March, according to data from comScore.
