Twelve South’s BookArc allows you to run your setup from the power of your Mac laptop while in closed clamshell mode. It’s a great product — as long as you don’t wish to use the Touch Bar.
To use you slide your laptop into the silicone slot, connect it to an external display, add a full-size keyboard and mouse to create a de facto desktop setup. Unplug the Mac laptop, and BookArc’s newly designed cable-catch feature keeps your cables from falling to the floor.
If you don’t mind a lack of access to the Touch Bar (though I do mind), the $49.99 BookArc for MacBook Pros works well. It holds the laptop vertically vertically, freeing up desk space. Twelve South's stand also matches Apple's aesthetics. The BookArc is made from bead-blasted aluminum with a polished chamfered edge that pays homage to the mirrored Apple logo.
