Bloomberg reporting WWDC 2017 MacBook updates

New MacBooks On The Way?

We'll know in just 20 days...

We may be seeing more than just updates to the iPad Pro line and a new Siri Speaker at this year's WWDC in San Jose, California. Bloomberg is reporting that "people familiar with the matter" say "Apple is planning three new laptops".

The MacBook Pro will get a faster Kaby Lake processor from Intel Corp., said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss internal planning. Apple is also working on a new version of the 12-inch MacBook with a faster Intel chip. The company has also considered updating the aging 13-inch MacBook Air with a new processor as sales of the laptop, Apple's cheapest, remain surprisingly strong, one of the people said.

Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has predicted MacBook Pro Kaby Lake upgrades this year with a new 32GB RAM options, and Apple's own admission that the 16GB MacBook Pro was not seen as a true "Pro" machine could have forced a fast redesign of the platform.

The 12-inch MacBook was introduced two years ago, then given a speed boost with a faster Core M processor last year. The 13-inch MacBook Air hasn't been upgraded in the recent past, with the 13-inch MacBook Pro without Touch Bar being offered as a MacBook Air replacement. The MacBook Air, however, offers a lower and more attractive price point.
