Notable apps and app updates for March 14, 2017

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks.

macOS Apps/Updates

Pubblog has announced MailSteward 11.4.2, an update to their email archiving solution for the Mac.

The app archives email in a relational database for easy access and safe backup of all your email. Version 11.4.2 fixes a minor bug, and supports Amazon Web Services (AWS) Relational Database Service. Easily create a MySQL or Amazon Aurora MySQL database instance on your AWS account using the RDS service and connect to it with MailSteward Pro.

MailSteward 11.4.2 costs $49.95. There’s a “lite” version for $24.95, and a “pro” version for $99.95. A demo is available for download.

Dejal has released Time Out 2.2, an update to their break reminder app for macOS.

Using a computer for hours on end can lead to eye, back, and neck strain. Time Out offers users gentle reminders to take breaks, allowing them to stretch and relax. Version 2.2 adds the ability to optionally track breaks and app activity in a chart.

Time Out 2.2 requires macOS 10.10 or later. It’s free, and is available worldwide through the Mac App Store, as well as the Dejal website. Advanced features are available via in-app donations.

iOS Apps/Updates

The last two holdouts in the Angry Birds franchise to update to 64-bit are Angry Birds Space and Angry Birds Star Wars. This past week Angry Birds Star Wars was updated to 64-bit and the week before Angry Birds Space was updated. This is important for those who want to keep playing those titles or for people who have never tried them.

With iOS 10.3 beta both these games gave the warning they would not run with future versions of iOS. Presumably this means that come iOS 11 any app not updated to 64-bit will not longer function. You can now rest assured. You can keep flinging space birds indefinitely.

TuneIn Radio has been updated to improve the user interface experience and increase stability. TuneIn radio is a popular app for streaming all types of audio. There is an ad-supported version. A $3.99 version that will remove ads or a premium version that costs $7.99 per month.

The premium version adds over 600 commercial-free radio stations, the full audio to every MLB, NBA, and NFL game, and language learning courses. The premium version also gives you unlimited access to all the audiobooks in TuneIn’s library.
