Security research firm Check Point revealed at the Black Hat USA 2016 summit that 900 million Android devices using Qualcomm chips suffer from a set of security vulnerabilities dubbed "QuadRooter."
Check Point's report states: “A myriad of device models, operating system versions, and unique software modifications makes handling Android vulnerabilities a challenge. The earlier these vulnerabilities are born in the supply chain, the more difficult they are to fix.” At the same conference, Apple Head of Security Engineering and Architecture, Ivan Krstic presented a behind the scenes look at iOS security.
“The security woes of Android are inherent in the Android commodity business model,” notes analyst Mark Hibben in a Seeking Alpha post. “Apple's control of both processor and operating system design has allowed it to create one of the most secure smartphones available.”
