ANZ is the first Australian bank to support Apple Pay

Apple has expanded Apple Pay in Australia after ANZ (Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited) became the country's first bank to support the mobile payment service, reports Reuters.

The article adds that Apple has partnered with a bank widely seen as trailing its three bigger peers in digital technology, a situation ANZ's new Chief Executive Shayne Elliott has set out to change with Apple Pay, as well as by hiring Google's Australia managing director. The Cupertino, California-based company continues to speak with other Australian banks, hoping ANZ customers' experience will create demand among competitors. Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Apple Pay, told Reuters.

ANZ is the fourth largest bank by market capitalization in Australia, after the Commonwealth Bank, Westpac Banking Corp., and National Australia Bank. It’s also the largest bank in New Zealand.
