In DisplayMate’s analysis of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, Dr. Raymond Soneira, president of the company, says the smaller pro tablet sports the best iPad display to date.
“At first glance the iPad Pro 9.7 looks almost indistinguishable from the 2014 iPad Air 2,” he writes. “Actually, the displays are the same size and have the same pixel resolution. But that’s as far as it goes... The iPad Pro 9.7 display is a Truly Impressive major enhancement on the iPad Air 2... and even on the recent iPad Pro 12.9 and iPad mini 4... and even every other mobile LCD display that we have ever tested... and note that I hand out compliments on displays very carefully.”
Among the highlights of the evaluation:
- Not only is the iPad Pro 9.7 more than 20% brighter than the other current iPads, but it’s the brightest full size production tablet DisplayMate has seen.
- It has the lowest low screen reflectance of any mobile display, so its image colors and contrast in high ambient light will appear considerably better than any other mobile display.
- Both TrueTone and Night Shift improve visual and user comfort. True Tone automatically changes the White Point and color balance of the display based on real-time measurements of the ambient light falling on the screen. Night Shift is designed to change the color balance of the display in order to reduce the amount of Blue light coming from the display, which some recent research indicates can affect how well users sleep afterwards.
- The iPad Pro 9.7 showed a 47 to 55% decrease in Brightness at a modest 30 degree viewing angle, slightly better than the iPad Air 2 and all other iPads.
