Hi, I’m Steve Sande from Apple World Today, and this is the AWT News Update for April 11, 2016.

The last time you listened to the AWT News Update was Thursday, April 7 and we let you know that Montreal, Canada was the latest addition to transit directions in Apple’s Maps app. Since then Portland, Oregon has been added as well. For you Portlandians, enjoy your newfound knowledge and your transit system.

We haven’t seen all that many Apple Watch advertisements, and finally Apple has released seven new ads to talk about the different capabilities of the Watch. Each 15 second ad is shown against a colorful background, and those functions — including receiving text messages, tracking activity, and swapping bands — are given the spotlight. It’s an educational look at the Apple Watch even if you own one, so be sure to visit Apple’s YouTube channel to check them out. I have a funny feeling that many people will miss that it’s Alice Cooper in one of the ads…

Apple World Today readers who live in the Boston area may want to visit the Boylston Street Apple Store on Saturday, April 16th. Apple director of Fitness and Health Technology Jay Blahnik will be moderating a discussion on the topics of using the Apple Watch in training, running, and the Boston Marathon. Model and Apple spokesperson Christy Turlington-Burns, who was featured during the debut of the Apple Watch will attend, along with ultra marathoner Scott Jurek and blogger Heather Armstrong. All three are running to support Every Mother Counts, an organization run by Burns that works on improving maternal healthcare programs around the world. Do note that you will have to RSVP to the event to attend, and that it begins at 3 PM EDT.

We’ll be back tomorrow with another edition of the AWT News Update.
