More developers are now using Mac OS X than Linux

For the first time, more developers are using Mac OS X than Linux as their primary operating system, according to a survey of 56,033 coders in 173 countries by Stack Overflow (www.stackoverflow.com), a community of 4.7 million programmers.

Last year, Mac edged ahead of the Linuxes as the number two operating system among developers. This year it became clear that trend is real, according to Stack Overflow. If OS adoption rates hold steady, by next year's survey fewer than 50% of developers may be using Windows.

For the second year in a row Rust, Apple's Swift and Go make the top five “most loved programming languages.” Visual Basic tops the list of the most dreaded technologies.
