Crowdsourced directions and traffic app Waze (free) added a really fun new feature today in version 4.3.0 -- planned drives. With the new feature, you can schedule a drive -- say, from your house to a doctor's appointment -- and Waze informs you of when to leave your home to arrive at the appointment on time based on actual live traffic conditions.

Providing Waze access to your Calendar and/or Facebook automatically turns appointments and Facebook Events into Planned Drives, which takes one more step out of the process of getting to your meeting or dinner on time.

The Waze Traffic Bar has also been updated, showing the reason for a traffic jam if one is known. If there's an accident you'll see an icon for that, while objects on the road like that dead moose will produce a different icon.

Since Waze gathers traffic information in real time from users who have the app open on their phones, the app now mutes automatically during incoming or outgoing phone calls.
