Apple Pay will launch in China on Feb. 18 for the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China customers, reports Reuters, noting social media posts from bank representatives.
Apple had previously said the system would launch in China in early 2016. This makes it Apple Pay's fifth country. ICBC is China's biggest lender by assets.
What’s more, Apple has reached the 1,000 mark for the number of U.S. card issuers supporting Apple Pay, “a figure continuing to outpace the number of retail chains supporting the platform,” notes AppleInsider. Apple Pay is usable at over two million locations, but to date, the number of supporting U.S. retail chains is still “a fraction of the number of issuers,” the article adds.
