Today's the lull before the storm -- tomorrow, of course, is the day that Apple holds an event at which we expect to see some updated Macs. We'll have plenty of news tomorrow, but today you can feast your ears on a short podcast about:
- Apple Pay appears to be getting close to launch in Germany
- Apple VP Jennifer Bailey will speak about Apple Pay at a conference in Las Vegas in December
- AirPods have been delayed; we give you a few options if you're really in need of some W1-equipped wireless headphones

Hi, this is Steve Sande for Apple World Today, and this is the AWT News Update for October 26, 2016. This week’s podcasts are sponsored by Spidercase, a rugged protective case for your iPhone that won’t cost a bundle. Check out the link in the show notes for more information.
As we've said before, Apple is moving to get Apple Pay into as many countries as possible in order to expand the popular touchless pay system around the world. Germany is a country that appears to be close to getting an Apple Pay launch, as Apple has just posted an explanatory web page on the Apple Germany website featuring details of how to set up cards and use the system. The site is in German, of course, and uses metric measurements where needed, but images used on the page still use an American credit card from a bank in Oregon. We expect that Apple may announce a definite date for the German launch of Apple Pay at tomorrow's Mac event. In other Apple Pay news, the recent launch in Japan was so popular that on Tuesday -- one day after launch -- Japan Rail East's Suica transit card system crashed due to overloading Apple's backend system.
Apple Pay has become such a big part of Apple's services business that there's actually a vice president in charge of the service. Jennifer Bailey was originally tapped in 2014 to be the VP over Apple Pay, and she's presented Apple Pay-related news at WWDC and other conferences. Bailey is next scheduled to speak at the Code Commerce conference in Las Vegas on December 6, where she'll talk with Re/Code's Kara Swisher about the service. Other speakers at the conference include Square CEO and founder Jack Dorsey, and Peter Szulczewski, CEO of mobile-centric shopping service Wish.
Looking forward to getting your Apple AirPods wireless earbuds this month? Well, although Apple intended to have the unique earbuds ready to go by the end of October, it now appears that the rollout is being pushed back. In a statement to TechCrunch, an Apple spokesperson said that "We don't believe in shipping a product before it's ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers." If you're really anxious about getting a pair of wireless headphones containing Apple's proprietary W1 chip, the Beats Solo3 headphones are already available for sale, and Apple and Beats began taking orders for the Powerbeats3 workout headphones on Tuesday.
That’s all for today; We’ll be back tomorrow afternoon with another edition of the AWT News Update, probably a much longer podcast due to tomorrow’s Mac event.
