Earlier this week I reviewed the DODOcase P2 Virtual Reality Cardboard Pop-Up Viewer, a simple and inexpensive ($25) device that you slip an iPhone into for viewing Google Cardboard-compatible VR content. Well, another well-known name in the iPhone/iPad accessories market has stepped up with a sturdier VR viewer and iPhone case combo. Speck's Pocket VR was announced today at CES 2016 and will sell for US$69 when it ships this spring.
Like the DODOcase product, Pocket VR is compatible with Google Cardboard content. Unlike the DODOcase product that's truly made out of cardboard, Pocket VR is a folding plastic device. It comes with one of Speck's CandyShell Grip cases for military-grade iPhone protection, and the entire package -- case and viewer -- folds down into a flat case for easy carrying.
Sadly, the Pocket VR will only work with the iPhone 6/6s and not the larger 6 Plus/6s Plus, so yours truly will be using the DODOcase viewer for the foreseeable future.
