Notable apps and app updates for Jan. 25, 2016

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks for Mac OS X and iOS.

Mac OS X Apps/Updates

Winter Wolves has released their first sci-fi visual novel/collectible card game hybrid: Planet Stronghold: Colonial Defense for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.

Here’s how the game/novel is described: “Planet Stronghold: Colonial Defense brings you back in time in the early settlement days of the Planet Stronghold colony. By a bizarre coincidence, two captains, two siblings, get stuck in the same colony: Alex and Diana Nelson. Take control of one of them, and discover the mysteries and the dangers of Planet Stronghold, and the personalities of the various characters of your team.

“The game features a big card-collectible gameplay part, easy to learn but hard to master. Upgradable cards brings even more replayability, especially at higher difficulty levels. For those looking forward more to the story and visual novel/dating sim aspect, you can play the game in ‘Visual Novel Mode.”

Planet Stronghold: Colonial Defense it is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. A version for mobile is planned later this year. The main game has a free demo available on the official website. Registration costs only $19.99. A separate version is also available with bonus content including the full original soundtrack in mp3, extra artwork and wallpapers.
