A future Apple Watch wristband may double as a case, a stand, and a Mac accessory. Apple has filed for a patent (number 20160007697) with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office for a “magnetic wristband” that would have a number of configurations.
In one, the wristband is magnetically coupled around your wrist. In another, the magnetic wristband can be magnetically coupled around an electronic device to which it’s attached. In this configuration the magnetic wristband acts as a protective cover for the Apple Watch to protect it when it’s not being worn.
In another configuration, the band could roll around itself to serve as a minimalist stand. And in still another configuration, it could it be magnetically attached to other devices such as Mac.
