The number of different iPhone cases on the market never ceases to amaze me. Some are inexpensive and thin, others are expensive and offer amazing protection. Some are ugly; others enhance the look of the iPhone while keeping it safe. The Moshi iGlaze luxe for iPhone 6/6s ($44.95) and 6/6s Plus ($49.95) is a metal bumper case that gives your favorite iPhone military-grade drop protection while retaining the cool metal feel of a "naked" iPhone.
The iGlaze luxe comes in four different colors for the iPhone 6/6s -- satin gold, titanium gray, alloy orange, and rose pink -- and two colors for the iPhone 6 Plus/6s Plus (titanium gray and rose pink).
There's a silicone sleeve that hugs the outside of your iPhone for protection from drops; actually, there are TWO sleeves. With the titanium gray model, for example, I received a black sleeve and a gray sleeve. It's nice to have a choice. The sleeves feature passthroughs for the volume rocker, the mute switch, and the power switch, as well as holes for the speaker, Lightning port and headphone jack.
Once on your iPhone, this sleeve slides into a two-part aluminum bumper. There's a clear plastic cover for the back of the phone (complete with hole for the camera/flash), so it's protected nicely. The aluminum bumper and silicone sleeve combine to create a raised lip for the front of your iPhone; you might wish to add a Moshi screen protector for the ultimate in lightweight protection.
The weight of the case is 1.62 ounces (46 grams) for the iPhone 6/6s Plus version, while the iPhone 6/6s edition weighs just 1.3 ounces (37 grams). With the case installed, your iPhone 6/6s Plus dimensions will be 6.57 x 3.43 x .39 inches (16.7 x 8.7 x 1 cm) while your iPhone 6/6s will grow to 5.82 x 3.01 x .39 inches (14.78 x 7.65 x 1 cm).
Let's get the negatives out of the way first. If you don't like the feel of a raised lip around the iPhone screen, you won't like the Moshi iGlaze luxe. In addition, installing the sleeve and bumper may take a bit of fiddling around to get everything just right. Finally, there's a bit of a gap between the outside of the bumper and the actual phone; if you use a dock while charging your iPhone, you may find that you have to extend the Lightning connector a bit further to reach the iPhone's charging port.
With those potential negatives out of the way, I found the iGlaze luxe to be quite attractive while keeping my monster iPhone 6s Plus safe. The clear plastic shield on the back lets bystanders admire the Apple logo while keeping it safe from scratches, and the combo bumper/sleeve offers full MIL-STD-810G drop protection.
It looks good, too. The titanium gray version I tested, when coupled with the black silicone sleeve, looks great.
Combine good looks with amazing protection and you have an iPhone 6/6s/6 Plus/6s Plus case that's going to be perfect for a lot of people. My one wish other than having Moshi figure out an easier way to get all of the pieces to come together more smoothly while installing the case would be for them to add the satin gold and stunning alloy orange colors to the larger sized model.
