Apple CarPlay wins Autoblog’s tech of the year award

Autoblog, an online automotive news and information site, has named Apple’s CarPlay the winner of its technology of the year feature award and the 2016 Tesla Model S P90D winner of the technology of the year car award at the 2016 North American International Auto Show.

The awards honor both the best individual technology features in a vehicle along with the vehicle that showcases the most transformative, integrated technologies in the auto world. Winners were selected based on testing conducted by Autoblog’s editorial staff and a guest judge from Engadget, a technology and culture publication.

“We wanted to take the opportunity to highlight the cutting-edge vehicles and technologies on display today,” Michael Austin, Autoblog editor in chief, said in a press release. “These winners will certainly transform the way consumers use their vehicles in the future.”

Stephen Rouse, Autoblog’s director of product and technology, added: “Apple’s CarPlay represents the impact technology is having on our connected lives and brings an experience that is easy to use and enhances the lives of consumers who use this product,” said in the release.

According to Apple, CarPlay is the “smarter, safer and more fun way” to use an iPhone in your car. It gives iPhone users a way to make calls, use Maps, listen to music and access messages with just a word or a touch. Users can control CarPlay from the car’s native interface or just push-and-hold the voice control button on the steering wheel to activate Siri without distraction, says Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of iPhone and iOS Product Marketing.
