On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks for iOS, tvOS, and Mac OS X:
Savage Interactive has released Procreate 3, an update to its $5.99 iPad. Targeted to the upcoming iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, Procreate 3 builds on the features of previous Procreate releases with 16K canvas resolution on the “super-sized Apple tablet. It also introduces Quickline, a new feature for creating straight lines, along with completely customizable perspective guides and over 100 new features and refinements.
Ateam has announced Trivia Saga 1.03. It’s a quiz RPG whose trivia questions have been “culturalized” for western audiences and feature topics ranging from popular culture to world history.
Grant Morris has introduced Frontdrop 1.1. The $0.99 app enables users to share their passions or stories with the world through adding an overlay to their images.
ChangeTip has a free, self-titled app that blends the offline and online worldby allowing anyone with a phone number, email address, Facebook or Twitter account to send and receive money to and from each other internationally. The app can use both Bitcoin and US currency.
Ibidem has announced Petri. It’s a $1.49 (for a limited time only), local multiplayer game using smartphones as controllers. Petri is available to play with up to 22 players.
Appologics has released AirBeam. It’s the free Apple TV version of their video surveillance app. AirBeam streams live video and audio from the built-in cameras of iPhones, iPods, iPads, Macs to the Apple TV.
Joe Macirowski has cooked up Yeti Pie. It’s a $1.99 game in which you have to transport your pizza through the woods without the yetis stealing it.
Mac OS X Apps/Updates
Ergonis Software has announced PopChar X 7.3, an improved version of the tool for finding and inserting special characters and exploring fonts.
With PopChar, thousands of special characters are only a few clicks away. Version 7.3 allows you to select skin tone variants of all applicable symbols of the Apple Color Emoji font. It improves the organization of Unicode blocks and fixes a few user-reported issues and improves compatibility with El Capitan.
PopChar X 7.3 requires Mac OS X 10.6 or later. It can be purchased on the Ergonis Software website for $29.99 for new users. The upgrade to PopChar X 7.3 is free for anyone who owns a license for PopChar X 7 or purchased a license for PopChar X 6 on or after March 1, 2014. Upgrade paths are available for customers who purchased their license before that date.
OWC Holdings has released SoftRAID 5.1, an update to the disk driver for OS X that replaces the RAID functionality that was removed from Disk Utility in El Capitan.
Version 5.1 supports the enhanced security mechanisms in Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan. It’s a free update for all version 5.x users of SoftRAID.
For new users the cost is $179. Upgrades from version 4.x users to version 5.1 are $89. A demo is available for download. SoftRAID 5.1 requires Mac OS X 10.6.8 or higher.
