Apple continued its dominance in the premium segment of the smartphone market with its iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models for most of the third quarter of 2015, according to new data from Gartner Inc. The global launch of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus during the last week of September 2015, along with the simultaneous launch in China, further added to its overall sales during the quarter, according to the research group.
Apple had 13.1 percent of worldwide smartphone sales in the third quarter, according to Gartner. That’s up from 12.5 percent in the third quarter of 2014. Samsung remains the global leader with 23.7 percent market share (down from 23.9 percent in the year-ago quarter), says Gartner.
The research group says that Android had the highest global market share (84.7 percent) of all mobile operating systems in the third quarter of 2015. That’s down from 83.3 in the third quarter of 2014. Apple’s iOS had 13.1 percent in the third quarter of 2015, up from 12.5 percent in the same period a year-ago.
