On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks for iOS, tvOS, and Mac OS X:
Marvel Contest of Champions (free with in-app purchases) lets you collect the favorite Marvel heroes and villains, assembling a team of champions to fight against evil. The in-app purchases can be pricy -- anywhere from $1.99 for a collector's booster pack to $99.99 to all-father Odin's vault -- but bring the power to really move ahead in the game.
Like to blow things up? Boom Beach (free with in-app purchases) is from the same folks who brought you Clash of Clans. The description says it all: "Fight the evil Blackguard with brains and brawn in this epic combat strategy game. Attack enemy bases to free enslaved islanders and unlock the secrets of this tropical paradise. Create a Task Force with players around the world to take on the enemy together. Scout, plan, then BOOM THE BEACH!"
Maybe singing along with your favorite songs is more up your alley. Smule's Sing! Karaoke (free with in-app purchases) not only lets you sing along with over 100,000 hit songs, but gives you the chance to share your performance with others worldwide. Yep, you can even sing duets with total strangers for the chance to meet new people. Sound like fun? It can be a blast.
OS X Apps/Updates
Graphic Converter ($39.95) has been around for eons, practically since the Stone Age in terms of internet years. It's still an amazing app that's used for photo editing and has a large and very faithful following around the world. It's been updated to version 9.7.2, adding image optimization as a background thread and adding unicode support to HTML file creation. It also has a pile of bug fixes.
PhotoDesk ($4.99) is simply the best Instagram client for Mac OS X around. Sadly, you can't post to Instagram from anything but the official Instagram app, but PhotoDesk lets you view, like and comment on Instagram photos and videos. You can create photo collages from the images, see pictures arranged on a map, blacklist users and tags, and more.
PhotoSketcher ($4.99) has plenty of competitors on the iOS side of the world, but it's about the only app of its kind in the Mac App Store. Take any photo and turn it into an artistic pencil sketch without a lot of work. It's currently on sale for 50% off for a limited time.
