On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks for iOS and Mac OS X:
Cathy Lane Studios has announced Sam Plays Saxophone 1.0 for the iPad. It’s a $3.99 children’s picture book app for kids aged 4- 8 years old. It takes the reader along with Sam the Squirrel, on a journey of adventure to find musicians to help with his song. As the tale unfolds, the reader hears the individual sounds of each instrument, including saxophone, keyboard, drums, trumpet, double bass, and guitar.
Happy Frogs Apps has released School Words 1, the first app in their School Words vocabulary learning series. These apps will introduce the key vocabulary skills needed for academic success in the early elementary grades. School Words 1 teaches words needed to succeed in first grade. The School Words apps are available in a free and paid edition. The free edition includes four free levels for a single user. Additional users and levels are available with in-app purchases. The School Edition has no in-app purchases. It’s available for $4.99 and has up to 10 players and all levels available.
Duo-Pisces has introduced Trip Tracker GP. The free app lets you track different trip types, such as walking, running, cycling, driving, boating, and more. Your can obtain, save, and share each trip type history with statistics such as distance, duration and mean speed. You can also export all the trip history to an Excel file to have more complex analysis and more.
Mezmedia has launched Bamba Surprise Words 1.0.0, an addition to the Bamba series of learning apps for kids. The free app combines spelling, surprises and toy collecting. Inspired by the Japanese Gashapon machine, kids insert a coin into one of three gumball machines to collect a special egg that “hatches” a hidden toy and word. Kids then arrange letters to form the word and the toy is revealed.
Pocket Watch has unveiled ActivePrint Pro for the iPad Pro, which goes on sale tomorrow. With the $4.99 app installed on an iPad Pro (or iPad Air or iPhone), you can print any document or photo to any printer via cloud printing (iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Box, Microsoft SkyDrive, etc.).
Mac OS X Apps/Updates
The Alchemist Guild has announced TaskCard 2 for Mac OS X. It’s an update of the app for writing outlines, taking notes, to-do lists and organizing projects.
Version 2.0 offers full support for sticky notes, integration with Mac events, simple bullet lists with row numbering and tabbed cards and more. According to the Alchemists, the new version was designed from the ground up to be a totally unique experience on the Mac while taking full advantage of the latest features OS X.
TaskCard 2 requires Mac OS X Yosemite or El Capitan. A demo is available for download; registration is US$15.
