In a conference with analysts and the press regarding Apple’s fiscal 2015 fourth quarter that ended Sept. 26, CEO Tim Cook said Apple was very happy with sales of the Apple Watch and pre-orders for the new Apple TV that went on sale this week. However, the company isn’t releasing details on how many of the gadgets were sold.
Cook said that sales of Apple’s smartwatch were up sequentially in the fourth quarter and “were ahead of expectations.” The company didn’t break out unit sales for the Apple Watch, but analysts estimated the company sold 3.8 million in the quarter.
Cook did point out that there were now 13,000 apps that run on the smartwatch. Also, Apple Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri noted that the Apple Watch was available at nearly 5,000 locations in 32 countries by end of last quarter.
Regarding the Apple TV, the fourth generation model went on sale Monday. Those who ordered should receive it this week or next. Again, Cook wouldn’t say how many of the set-tops were ordered, but said he was “thrilled with the initial sales.”
