Welcome to AWT TV, a weekly show featuring Steve Sande, Dennis Sellers and Marty Edwards of Apple World Today. Each week we’ll discuss what’s happened in the world of Apple, talk about new apps and accessories, maybe even have a demonstration or two of the latest software.
We had a “live remote” tonight that was the focus of the show. Marty and Ruby Edwards are representing Apple World Today at Jamf Nation, a large annual conference held by Jamf, a software company that crafts incredibly powerful device management systems. Ruby provided us with a walk-around tour of the venue in Minneapolis, MN, and the large amount of signboards and sponsor lists that were seen gave a good indication of the participation at this event.
Events like this are great for those in the business of deploying many Macs, iPhones, iPads and Apple TVs, as they have a chance to meet up with others in their fields and in other areas. Marty and Ruby pointed out that they had chatted with the Microsoft VP of Cloud and Enterprise, Brad Anderson, who was a speaker at the event.
Several Apple employees were in attendance but keeping a low profile. It appears that Apple may be using Jamf to do the setup of devices at Apple retail outlets; a great way to keep track of what’s on the store floor and make sure that all of the devices are loaded with the latest versions of demo software and operating systems.
We did have one short software demo today; Steve showed Google Rewards, which is an app that actually pays you to use it. Answer about one survey a day, and you can make about $3 – $4 a week — enough to pay for some songs from iTunes or a few apps.
We also chatted a short bit about pre-ordering of the iPhone X, which begins Friday, October 26 at 12:01 AM. Oh, and remember how Marty had returned his Apple TV 4K a few weeks ago? He’s got a new one.
Be sure to read Apple World Today (https://appleworld.today) this week for continuing coverage of the Jamf conference, and join us next Tuesday night at 6:30 PM PT / 9:30 PM ET for another episode of AWT TV.
