Apple kills App Store affiliate program, screws small Apple websites

As if things aren’t hard enough for many Apple websites, Apple today announced that since they’re doing such a bang-up job of selling apps through the redesigned macOS and iOS app stores (well, macOS is in beta...), they’re going to screw affiliates who make money by linking to apps. Guess what? We’re one of those affiliates. Here’s the email from the powers-that-be in Cupertino:

AWT TV Episode 44: Marty goes rogue, Mojave looks great, and more

We don’t know what you did on the last night of July 2018, but for Marty Edwards and me, it was time to sit down and chat on another episode of AWT TV. Previously on the show, we’ve hit on the fact that the best device for a particular job might not be from Apple, and on last night’s show Marty confessed that he no longer uses an iPhone, having migrated to a Samsung Galaxy S9 instead.

"Can't take it anymore": The realities of running an Apple website in 2018

"Can't take it anymore": The realities of running an Apple website in 2018

This morning I received an email from a reader who is "leaving the site". Since Dennis and I have been struggling to keep Apple World Today viable for the past three years, I decided I had to respond.

I'm keeping the reader's name out of this, but I think all of our other readers need to see this. I've said it before and I'll say it again: if we don't get more support and more readers soon, this site may be history. Here's the reader's email, which had "Can't take it anymore" as the subject line:

Apple World Today News Update: June 20, 2018

Apple World Today News Update: June 20, 2018

Today marks the last day of the Apple World Today News Update podcast. Starting soon, I'll be doing a podcast that won't have a regular schedule or time, and might not even talk about Apple. The new podcast is called Tangible Tech, and it's designed to cover the entire realm of technology, not just Apple products.

We're also moving to a new podcast host, Anchor.FM, and with that comes the ability to bring in guests, have listeners add audio responses to what we've said on the podcast, and a lot bigger potential audience. Read more about the changes in the show notes below!

AWT TV Episode 42: June 19, 2018 -- Anchors and Cats

AWT TV Episode 42: June 19, 2018 -- Anchors and Cats

Ahhh, I love it when the best made plans about what we're going to talk about suddenly go out the door. Last night, Marty Edwards and Steve Sande were supposed to demo a few apps and do some "how to" tips. Well, that didn't happen. Instead, Steve and Marty were both interested in yesterday's announcement about the iPad version of Anchor, and Steve had done his homework....so we talked about the app, future plans for audio podcasting, and Steve did a demo of the app.

AWT TV Episode 38: App reviews and a visit from a cat

April 17, 2018 was not only the night that we recorded AWT TV episode 38, but it was also Black Cat Appreciation Day. Apparently Steve's cat Merry thought that meant that she could participate in the AWT TV episode, since she shows up toward the end of the show.
