OPSO: The Apple Watch Charger That Goes Anywhere

OPSO: The Apple Watch Charger That Goes Anywhere

I use my Apple Watch Series 3 (with cellular) almost continuously, except for the 30 minutes each day that it’s sitting on a charger as I’m doing my daily ablutions. Most of the time I have a good charge on the device, but occasionally — and when I least expect it — I get the dreaded battery warning. A new Kickstarter project has just launched for OPSO, a wireless portable Apple Watch Charger that can go anywhere with you. Here’s my review of OPSO, which will ship to backers in January.

MOFUU Portable Wireless Apple Watch Charger can travel with you everywhere

MOFUU Portable Wireless Apple Watch Charger can travel with you everywhere

I love my Apple Watch Series 3, so I keep it charged up by placing it on a charger every morning for about twenty minutes. That usually keeps it "topped off", but about once a week I need to charge it a bit longer to get it powered up to 100% capacity. Since I'm not always near my Watch charger when the need strikes, a portable Apple Watch Charger seems like a great idea, which is why the MOFUU Portable Wireless Apple Watch Charger ($36.99, Amazon Affiliate) is now on my keychain.

Speidel Twist-O-Flex Watchband for Apple Watch: Comfortable and stylish

Speidel Twist-O-Flex Watchband for Apple Watch: Comfortable and stylish

When I was a kid growing up in the 1960s, I saw a lot of TV ads for two things: Timex watches, which were promoted by John Cameron Swayze ("It takes a licking and keeps on ticking") and Speidel Twist-O-Flex watchbands. The Twist-O-Flex was a metal watchband introduced by Speidel in 1959 that featured an expanding, stretchable link design. Well, that design is still around, and Speidel recently introduced the Twist-O-Flex Watchband for Apple Watch (US$50 - $80). Today we'll take a look at that watchband.

Can't wait for AirPower? The Funxim Charging Pad provides similar capability for just $29

Many of us who own both newer iPhones and Apple Watches were thrilled to see Apple's reveal of the AirPower charging mat, but disappointed to see that we'd have to wait until 2018 to actually get one of the cool devices. Now there's a Kickstarter campaign for a charging pad that provides much of the functionality of the AirPower at a fraction of the cost. The Funxim Charging Pad ($29, campaign has reached its funding goal) can charge both an iPhone 8/8 Plus/X and an Apple Watch at the same time just by laying the devices on the pad.

Twelve South HiRise Duet really sings in organizing your Apple tech

Multi-taskers are great. Think of anything that can perform more than one function, and you've suddenly reduced storage space requirements by half or more. That's the point behind the Twelve South HiRise Duet ($119.99), a charging stand for both an iPhone and Apple Watch.  The HiRise Duet was originally released late last year but disappeared from the Twelve South website; it's back again, and better than ever.

Apple releases watchOS 4.0.1 to fix Series 3 LTE/Wi-Fi issue

Today, Apple released watchOS 4.0.1, an update that is designed to fix a Wi-Fi issue that some Apple Watch Series 3 models with LTE cellular capabilities experienced. The issue, which had caused some early Series 3 reviewers to pan the device when they ran into the problem, caused the Watch to connect to an inaccessible but familiar Wi-Fi network instead of to an LTE network.

Apple Watch Series 3 review: A solid improvement over the original Apple Watch

Last Friday, I received a nice self-purchased present for my 60th birthday -- an Apple Watch Series 3 with the Dark Olive Sport Loop Band. Prior to the arrival of the Series 3, I hadn't updated my Watch since the original came out in April of 2015. Combined with watchOS 4, the newest Apple smartwatch is an impressively powerful update when compared to the original device. In this post, I'll take you on a detailed tour of the new Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular.

Checking out the aftermarket for Apple Watches

Checking out the aftermarket for Apple Watches

After two and a half years of wearing an original 42mm Space Gray Apple Watch, I'm finally considering moving up to the Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular. When I upgrade an iPhone, there's always Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program to take care of the old device, and a number of places where I can get a pretty decent price if I wish to sell it outright. But what about the aftermarket for Apple Watches? Does it exist?
