It's official! If you listened to Episode 5 of the Tangible Tech podcast you already know what I'm going to say: the podcast now has a companion website. TangibleTech.net is a sister site to Apple World Today that is targeted at all aspects of tech and science, not just Apple products and services, and it's now live!Read More
Just to give you all a progress report...we made some significant changes to our DNS settings last night and we're now running SSL for end-to-end encryption across the board. The many changes appear to have happened without too much downtime, although our Deals Shop was down for part of the morning.Read More
As we've mentioned a few times lately, we're making some changes to Apple World Today to make life better for our readers. During the initial building of the site back in early 2015, we made some decisions about domain registration, domain hosting, email hosting, and security that we later came to regret. We're changing those now prior to our move to SSL encrypted hosting and a new comment system.Read More
One of the more problematic things about running a site like Apple World Today is the comment system. We try to run a balance between getting a ton of comment spam and making it easy for readers to use, and as a result we were using the built-in Squarespace comment system. That system has some issues on occasion where people can't log in properly, so we're going to make a change.Read More
Just a heads-up to Apple World Today readers. This weekend, we're enabling end to end SSL encryption on the website. This should not affect anything...but just in case, I thought it would be a good idea to let everyone know what's going on.Read More
Hi, friends of Apple World Today.
It's the beginning of November, so I thought I'd let you know how we're doing. In one word, "better".
We are still not out of the woods yet financially, but our readership numbers are climbing at about 15 percent per month. With readership comes revenue and financial stability. Every day I thank each and every one of you who reads Apple World Today for making us one of your go-to websites for Apple news, reviews and how-tos.Read More
Over the past day, you've probably noticed some little "Advertise Here" banners show up on the site, replacing the in-house ad spots we had produced in hopes of doing our own ad sales. That didn't work too well, so we've hitched our fortunes to a well-known online advertising firm called BuySellAds.Read More
It's been over a month since Apple World Today launched, and it has been a whirlwind experience. Everything came together so quickly for AWT that my head was spinning for those first few weeks. Part of the chaos came from the necessary change of doing things one way at TUAW and another at AWT. Even the same posts -- my Daily Deals and Today in the App Store posts -- required a whole new workflow. My colleagues have discussed their experiences; now it is time for me share my first month at AWT.Read More
On Monday, we followed an ancient and hallowed TUAW tradition and ran a [liveblog during the Apple Spring Forward event]. After the fact, the team talked a bit about the future of liveblogging.
Liveblogs are usually quite popular and this was no exception. Our traffic on Monday was quite nice, something we'd like to see every day. But as we noticed while watching the event, there was another liveblog that was competing with ours -- Apple's.Read More
It’s hard to believe that we’re already almost four weeks into the life of Apple World Today. In that short period of time we’ve written a lot of posts, made a few mistakes, and have started settling into a routine. I thought it might be fun to let you all in on how things are going.Read More
Steve Sande, Kelly Hodgkins and I are building AWT into what it will be. There have been decisions to make and ideas to test. In this series, we'll provide an honest, behind-the-scenes look at the construction of what we know will be a vibrant community.Read More
