Mac sales down year-over-year, but up 5% from the previous quarter

Mac sales for the fiscal 2016 third quarter that ended June 25 were down, but the news wasn’t all bad. Apple sold 4.25 million units during the period, down from from 4.8 million units in the year-ago quarter. However, Mac sales were up 5% from the previous quarter and revenues were up 3% sequentially.

“It was a challenging quarter for personal computer sales,” says Apple Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri. “We faced a very difficult quarter with Macs compared to the year-ago quarter when we launched a new MacBook Pro and iMac.”

Mac sales could revive later this year with the release of macOS Sierra. Especially if we see new MacBook Pros and revamped Mac desktops.
