If you've got power adapters out the wazoo, NewerTech's Power2U AC/USB Wall Outlet may be a tool that you need. It sports NEC tamper-resistant receptacles and is available in a 20 Amp model for residential and commercial, hospitality, education and municipal applications.
Users can access two traditional three-prong AC wall sockets in addition to two USB 3.0/2.0/1.1 ports without encountering "plug barriers" found on similar devices that can prevent multiple devices from being charged/powered simultaneously. The Power2U is a basic "DIY" install in a 16-cubic-inch electrical box. The device is relatively easy to install. NewerTech says you can do it in as little as 20 minutes, but it took Yours Truly more like 30.
While the15 Amp and 20 Amp outlet models feature NEC tamper-resistant receptacles, the Power2U has a clean, streamlined appearance. They're available in white, light almond, ivory, and black versions.
The intelligent Smart Power design only outputs enough charging power to meet the requirements of the device that's attached. The specially designed spring-loaded Safety Shutters completely turn off power to the USB ports when a connecting cable is removed to prevent "vampire draw."
The Power2U's patented design prevents "plug barriers" to enable charging/powering up to four iPads, iPhones, iPods, Android tablets and phones, MP3 players, GPS, digital cameras, and other USB devices simultaneously without requiring a bulky adapter. It's priced at $29.95 for the 15 Amp model and $39.95 for the 20 Amp model.
