Notable apps and app updates for March 2, 2016

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks for Mac OS X and iOS.

Mac OS X Apps/Updates

AKVIS has announced AKVIS MakeUp 4.0, an update of tis portrait retouching software for Mac OS X (10.6 and higher).

The app cleans up the skin and removes blemishes, whitens teeth and fixes the red eye effect. Version 4.0 offers support for Ultra HD 4K and 5K resolution.

Registered users of MakeUp can upgrade to this version for free. For new users the cost is $39. A demo is available for download. MakeUp is available as a standalone application and as a plugin filter for Adobe Photoshop and other image editors. has launched SubRosaSoft Disk Copy, a backup and cloning system for Mac OS X 10.9 and higher.

It can create bootable copies of a startup drive, manage synchronization of volumes, handle incremental bootable copies, and run backups using a schedule. SubRosaSoft Disk Copy supports multiple backup modes such as Cloning and Synchronization of drives. It can also make incremental snapshots that back up your most recent changes, and retain older versions of files you can retrieve, if needed. 

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for SubRosaSoft Disk Copy is $34.95. It’s available as a download only. A demo is available.

iOS Apps/Updates for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

CodeDependent Software has given us a free version of Carl Can Divide 1.0. The app is designed to motivate kids 10 and up to practice times tables with swiping action, interactive prizes and gradual progression.

Blue Eyes Innovation has launched Samaritan 1.0. The free navigation app automatically detects accidents and sends out distress alertsbased on users’ health conditions.

Chackapps has released BuddiesBill 1.8.1, an update to their group payments app. It’s designed to help you you manage all the payments made by different people for trips or social events and more. Version 1.8 adds a shared budget feature. BuddiesBill is free, but does offer in-app purchases.

Bright Newt has introduced Viva Stampede 3.4, an update of its free match three puzzle. Players help Mr. Zookeeper line up three or more identical animals vertically or horizontally and earn tons of tokens along the way. They can then redeem tokens for power-ups.
