Notable apps and app updates for Feb. 23, 2016

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks for Mac OS X and iOS.

Mac OS X Apps/Updates

Dejal Systems has announced Simon 4.2, an update to their server monitoring tool for Mac OS X. 

The software checks web pages, FTP and DNS servers, local or remote ports or volumes, and other kinds of services for changes or failures. HTML reports enable remote viewing of a summary and/or details of Simon monitoring. Version 4.2 includes new exclusion and difference analysis filters, email, preview and reports improvements, and more.

Simon 4.2 requires Mac OS X version 10.10. It’s available for $99. This is a free update for licensed Simon 4 users, with upgrades from version 3 available for $49. A demo is available for download.

Ilium Software has launched eWallet 8, an update to their productivity app for Mac OS X. 

Featuring 256-bit AES encryption for security, the software offers Mac users the ability to store, access, and protect passwords and other sensitive data such as bank account information from any device. Version 8 includes the SyncPro engine that allows for wallets to be synchronized automatically and securely between devices using the cloud.

eWallet 8 requires Mac OS X 10.9 or later. It costs $9.99 and is available worldwide through the Mac App Store in the Productivity category.

iOS Apps/Updates for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

Gaucho Software has released Seasonality Pro 1.1, the latest update to its professional weather app. The $5.99 tool allows meteorologists to view and analyze weather model forecast data. Version 1.1 adds a new Particle Mode map layer to show the wind field from the surface to the upper atmosphere, a new way to animate maps over a longer period of time, and support for multitasking on iOS 9.
