Notable apps and app updates for Feb. 16, 2016

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks for iOS.

iOS Apps/Updates for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

DigitalSummit.TV has introduced Jr's Gem Run 1.0. In the $0.99 game, pPlayers must help Jr get as many gems and power supplies as possible by avoiding both the demons and traps in the world of FranknSon. Along the way you’ll pick up gems, treasures, and more. 

PhatWare Corp. has released WritePad Pro 3.5.1, an update to their $4.99 note-taking app for iOS devices. The upgrade introduces new handwriting recognition usability improvements, updated handwriting recognition dictionaries and minor bug fixes.

Izatt Apps has rolled out MileBug 3.2.1, an update of the $2.99 GPS mile tracker app designed to help you track your tax-deductible mileage. The upgrade adds support for report delivery via AirDrop, Google Drive, and Evernote, plus various bug fixes.

ABBYY has announced FineScanner 5.2, an update to the company's scanning app that lets users convert any hardcopy documents into digital PDF and JPG files. The update digitizes information from documents and books in 149 more languages, from Arabic, Vietnamese and even Karakalpak to rare fonts such as Gothic German. 

FineScanner 5.2 is free, but does offer in-app purchases. To activate the OCR feature with 193 languages, you need to subscribe for a premium account (yearly or monthly). You can also sign up for a free seven-day trial period to try the premium account features.
