Notable apps and app updates for Feb. 15, 2016

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks for Mac OS X and iOS.

Mac OS X Apps/Updates

Reggie Ashworth has released VidConvert 1.6.4, an update to his video converter for Mac OS X. 

It will convert just about any type of video into one of the formats of today. Version 1.6.4 is optimized for OS X El Capitan and fixes a vulnerability in the Sparkle updater.

VidConvert costs $7.99 for a single user license. A demo that creates three-minute samples is available.

Ashworth has also announced AppDelete 4.2.4, an update to his application deletion utility for Mac OS X.

Via drag and drop, it will uninstall anything along with all of the associated items. Version 4.2.4 is an El Capitan optimized version with a tweaked user interface, refreshed graphics, and a new app icon. It also includes miscellaneous bug fixes and other optimizations.

AppDelete 4.2.4 is compatible with OS X 10.7 and higher. It costs $7.99 for a single user license. Upgrades from version 2/AppDelete Lite are$3.99. A full-featured demo is available. Version 3 licenses without a serial number are also eligible for the upgrade.

iOS Apps/Updates for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

Diego Resnik has driven out iCarMode 3.4, an update to his $1.99, driving optimized app designed to allow safer use of any mounted iPhone with minimum distraction. iCarMode has large buttons that allow access to music, shortcuts for dialing, access to your preferred GPS app, and more. 

Outback Touring Pty has updated Caravan Australia, a travel app for iPad, to version 1.2. Targeting couples and families respectively, Caravan Australia it enables travelers to draw their route by dropping location pins with dates on a detailed map of Australia and then automatically share this, together with a daily journal, photos and their current location with family back home or new friends met while travelling. Version 1.2 fixed a minor bug and added a new Report feature.

Duo-Pisces has rolled out Super Boy Land 1.2, a free retro and super old school platform game similar to Super Mario Bros. You jump and run with your Super Boy through this side-scrolling adventure.

tvOS Apps/Updates for the Apple TV

DigitalSummit.TV has launched Jr's Mad Dash 1.0 for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV devices. It’s an action adventure game for all ages. With only his wits, a vicious right hook and his amazing rocket boots, Junior must traverse a gauntlet of skeletons, zombies, and monsters. Along the way you’ll pick up gems, and treasures.
