Notable apps and app updates for Jan. 26, 2016

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks for Mac OS X and iOS.

Mac OS X Apps/Updates

PowerProduction Software has announced StoryBoard Artist 7, an update of the digital and animatic storyboard creation tool for filmmakers. The software is available for Mac OS X and Windows.

Version 7 amps up 3D capabilities, adding an unlimited number of character poses, advanced motion graphics, and integration with StoryBoard mobile apps for previs creation across devices.

StoryBoard Artist 7 is immediately available from PowerProduction Software for $499.99. StoryBoard Artist owners can upgrade to the new version 7.0 for $199.

iOS Apps/Updates for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

Intelligent Apps has introduced FlexBright 1.0. The $1.99 app will continuously monitor exposure to blue light from your device and prompt you to change brightness if high eyestrain is detected. FlexBright also allows you to automatically adjust the brightness of your screen based on time of the day.

Appdore has bounced out Ricochet Theory 2. In the free minimalist physics game, players must draw to create platforms for the ball to reach its goal. Ricochet Theory 2 features over 200 levels across two modes of play.

Alexey Khutorschikov has announced Desqueeze 1.0.3. The free app lets amateurs and professionals reformat and resize a batch of photos and videos using presets or custom size up to 8192 px and 4k respectively. Settings includes compression format, size in pixels, orientation detection options, resizing method, photo dpi and video bitrate. 

Robots and Pencils has released CakeWalk 1.2, a free fitness tracking app for the iPhone and Apple Watch that shames you into exercising. Using the iOS device’s motion activity, CakeWalke tracks how many steps a user takes throughout the day. Every morning, the app compares the user's step count from the day before to the user's average weekly activity before serving up an assortment of motivational one liners and challenges. The lazier a user is, the more shame is dished out.

tvOS Apps/Updates for the Apple TV

Magnin & Associates has released Space Station Challenge 1.0. The $1.99 game offers a simulation of docking with the International Space Station and then performing five specific EVA missions. Ground control vocally guides players through the various maneuvers, as needed.
