Notable apps and app updates for January 22, 2016

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks for iOS, tvOS, and Mac OS X:

iOS Apps/Updates

It figures. Last week, I bought the great card game Exploding Kittens on Amazon for $20. Over the weekend, my wife and I laughed our heads off as we played this wacky game. Sure enough, this week the iOS app version of the game appeared for $1.99. Well, the card game is still a lot of fun, but if you know others who love the silly game with art by The Oatmeal and they have it on their iOS devices as well, you can all sit in a room together and play it without accidentally putting the game cards into the bowl of onion dip. In just a few days, Exploding Kittens has skyrocketed to the top of the Paid Apps list and for good reason. Buy it now, and you get some expansion packs thrown in for free.

If you have even a tiny bit of musical talent, go out and get Apple's free Music Memos app. We've discovered that even if you sing a tune into Music Memos, it will make a best effort at determining the accompanying chords. Wow. This may turn out to be Apple's highest-rated in-house app ever.

We know you too well. You get mesmerized by the flight departure and arrival information boards at airports. Now you can turn your 4th-generation Apple TV and HDTV into the Arrivals and Departure Board for any airport in the world with FlightBoard ($3.99). The app has also been around for iOS for a while. It could be fun watching the delays and cancellations at IAD today...

One of our favorite OS X app developers is John Saddington, who wrote the amazing Desk PM ($9.99) blogging app. If you work with WordPress or other supported content management systems, Desk PM provides a great way to write and get the user interface out of the way. Highly recommend, and it's discounted right now.
