Notable apps and app updates for Dec. 16, 2015

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks for iOS.

Fan Studio has launched Solaris: Rover Expedition 1.0. This free, space-oriented game offers players of all ages the ability to design and test their own space rovers on the rough terrain of a Mars-like planet. The game challenges players to travel the furthest distance while dealing with terrain obstacles such as loose rubble, crevasses, and rocky precipices.

Magnin & Associates has released Space Station Challenge 1.0, a $1.99, 3D simulation of docking with the International Space Station. Players dock, then perform five specific EVA missions. Ground control vocally guides players through the various maneuvers, as needed.

Interplay Entertainment has introduced Santa's Reindeer Run, a $0.99 horizontal scroller game for the holidays. Player helps Santa collect presents to deliver. Touching the screen makes the sleigh dive and gain speed. Using the hills it gets airborne again.

Madfinger Games has rolled out Unkilled 0.4.0, an update to their free zombie shooter. In the game, New York City is the center of the world's latest zombie outbreak. You must find, track, and eliminate the zombie menace before it becomes global. Players now have the option to build their own zombie army and attack other players' bases. There are also four new weapons offering improved gameplay balance.

Phantom Fish has shipped Byline 5, an update to the RSS feed reader for iOS devices. It allows you to read the latest news from the websites that matter to you most, even when you're offline. Version 5.0 takes advantage of the latest features offered by iOS 9 and Apple's latest hardware. On the latest iPhones you can use 3D Touch to Peek and Pop, and access Quick Actions from the home screen. Byline 5 is available in free, ad-supported and $5.99, ad-free versions.
