Tim Cook joins institute focusing on sustainability in China

The Paulson Institute and the China Center for International Economic Exchanges announced that Apple CEO Tim Cook and Vanke CEO Wang Shi are joining its CEO Council for Sustainable Urbanization.

The mission of the CEO Council, which is comprised of CEOs from 17 U.S. and Chinese companies, is to harness the power of business to advance sustainable urbanization in China through innovative corporate environmental practices, direct actions by companies and governments, and support for effective government policies, according to Paulson Institute Chairman Henry M. Paulson, Jr..

“Apple is committed to running our global operations on 100 percent renewable energy and we’re working hard to reduce emissions throughout our global supply chain,” Cook said. “We look forward to participating in the CEO Council’s effort to advance China’s green transformation and hope to do our part in helping China reach its climate goals.”

In addition to continuing its ongoing work on energy efficiency and sustainable buildings, this year the Council will also focus on projects to scale clean technologies in China, Paulson says.
