Notable apps and app updates for October 13, 2015

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks for iOS and Mac OS X:

iOS Apps/Updates

Moe Bull Corp. has announced the space-themed, arcade game Microgee. The free app was inspired by games that have the sensation of flight and minimalistic, retro, arcade games that feature simple, geometric obstacles and clever level design.

G-Power Team has released picQuote 1.0. The app transforms sayings, quotes, or any other text into artwork for sharing on popular social networks, or via text messages or email with friends and family. picQuote is free, but does offer in-app purchases.

Playmage has introduced Slash Saga. The game takes players on an adventure to reclaim a lost kingdom. You can choose from over 175 unique characters. Slash Saga is free, but does offer in-app purchases.

Mac OS X Apps/Updates

Quark Software has released the El Capitan Update to QuarkXPress 2015. With the El Capitan Update, QuarkXPress 2015 now officially supports the new OS X 10.11.

The update is Mac-only and free for all current QuarkXPress 2015 users. It can be downloaded using the built-in Auto Updater in QuarkXPress or downloaded here.

In addition to supporting OS X El Capitan, the new update to QuarkXPress addresses known issues and includes an even faster start-up time. Internal tests have shown the El Capitan Update launches in just over five seconds, nearly 60 percent faster than the previous version of QuarkXPress.

Note that due to the extensive changes in the OS X El Capitan release, Quark doesn'tintend to provide support for running El Capitan on versions of QuarkXPress prior to QuarkXPress 2015. QuarkXPress 3-10 users who plan to migrate to El Capitan should upgrade to QuarkXPress 2015.
